How to Use the Statistics Calculator

Basic Statistics

What's the difference between population and sample variance?

Population variance divides by N (number of items in population) while sample variance divides by n-1 (to correct for bias in small samples). Our calculator shows both when relevant.

How does the calculator handle missing data?

Empty values in comma/space separated lists are automatically ignored. For paired data, both X and Y values must be present for each data point.

What's the maximum dataset size?

The calculator can handle reasonably large datasets, but extremely large datasets (10,000+ points) may slow down your browser.

How precise are the calculations?

Calculations use JavaScript's floating-point arithmetic with about 15-17 decimal digits of precision.
